Prolifics’ Business Process and Data Governance Solution for SAP helps organizations do better business by streamlining processes and enhancing data quality. Informatica PowerCenter forms the solution’s backbone, along with IDQ Data Governance.

High-quality data is critical for successful business. For the 40% of business initiatives that fail to achieve their targeted benefits, poor data quality is the primary reason for their failure.

Data quality affects productivity by 20%. By 2017, one third of major companies around the world will have experienced a crisis because they can’t properly value, govern, or trust their data. One quarter of organizations will see their reputations suffer because of a lack of understanding of information trust issues. More than 60% of companies say that the biggest issues with managing their information are the spread of data across multiple applications and systems, leading to multiple versions of the truth.

Typical SAP business challenges revolve around business process interruptions, order and supply chain management, business cost and velocity, compliance with regulations, data governance, customer loyalty, issues with supplier relationships, and the difficulties that arise from mergers and acquisitions.

SAP organizations need to use data to innovate, but data must be in good quality to be leveraged as a strategic asset. Low data quality is caused by incomplete, inaccurate, missing, or duplicated data. Exploding data volumes only makes the situation worse. Poor quality data makes it difficult to find and reconcile issues.

The impact of these challenges can show up in many ways: increased cost, lost sales, unhappy customers, decreased profitability, and even regulatory fines.

When a SAP organization has business and data problems, it has difficulty answering basic questions surrounding order to cash, order to fulfillment, and procure to pay processes. These answers are critical to running day-to-day operations and accurately planning for the future. The inability to do so can be catastrophic to the bottom line.

Prolifics’ business process and data governance solution for SAP brings significant benefits to businesses. We help improve business processes, optimize supply chain management, increase sales and accounts receivable collections, increase trust and confidence in the information that’s reported to the business, and improve relationships with suppliers and vendors. Customers are happier, and customer churn is reduced. Organizations can monitor and report on regulatory requirements, increasing their compliance.

Step one: we start with a Business Data Readiness Assessment. Working with a business analyst, we identify the data quality issues.

In this example, we’ll show you how the business process and data governance for SAP solution can manage and order to cash process—specifically cash customers with an AR balance.

Step two: data is extracted from SAP on an ongoing basis using Informatica Power Center to a common Analytics Database.

Step three: data rules are developed as a result of the assessment and feed into Informatica Developer Tool via analyst.

Step four: business data rules that are identified will be used in Informatica Developer Tool. After we configure the workflow for data rule exceptions, including the users responsible to remediate, we execute the workflow.

Step five: now that the workflow execution is successful, the data steward will receive an email with a link to log into Informatica Analyst to review and remediate the exceptions for this rule.

Step six: governance metrics and KPIs are reported to LOB executives and leaders using Prolifics-developed dashboards.

Step seven: any new business rules that are defined either from issues reported by business problems or by customers are created and entered into rules monitoring to be included in the next cycle. Then the entire cycle starts over.

Data is extracted from SAP. For each rule, we only extract the tables needed to support the specific rule. For this rule, data is extracted from SAP tables, KNA1, KNKK, and BSID. Data quality rules are built in Informatica Analyst and executed in Informatica Developer Tool.

Here we see the mapping design. Human task for notification and task distribution and job completion. The data steward receives an email informing them to log on to Informatica Analyst to correct the data quality issue. The steward logs onto Informatica Analyst and reviews the exception for possible remediation. In this task, the data steward updates the specific records in Informatica Analyst. This is then communicated to the source system SME to make the relevant data updates.

Note: here we change the credit limit of customer Motomarkt Stuttgart to $5 million.

The executive dashboard gives insight into exceptions created by rule 6: cash customers with account balances. Here we see four exceptions. Soon, we will see this number reduced to three. We make changes in SAP as identified by a data steward in the previous section, and change the credit limit of Motomarket Stuttgart to $5 million. Having made the changes in the source SAP system, the batch job for rule 6 can be rerun.

After receiving another email, the data steward can log into Informatica Analyst and see that there is one less exception for rule 6.

Back at the executive dashboard, there are now three exceptions, rather than four, for rule 6.

Our Business Process Data Assessment can be leveraged throughout the enterprise across all lines of business. When it comes to SAP master data governance, we continuously monitor for rule violations and exceptions to data integrity. We spot weaknesses in data entry, find areas for process improvement, and identify process interruptions before they interrupt business.

By continuously monitoring business process rules, any violations and exceptions in interfaces going into or out of SAP are identified as soon as they are introduced.
