Prolifics Helps BMI Healthcare Implement Hybrid Cloud Solution

When BMI Healthcare, the UK’s leading private hospital group, required a flexible integration architecture to support business agility needs and securely leverage cloud-based applications, it turned to Prolifics.

Prolifics helped BMI implement a Hybrid Cloud solution that focused on creating a scalable, flexible integration engine using a variety of platforms, including IBM Integration Bus (IIB). With IIB’s exceptional performance and reliability, the solution enables BMI Healthcare to reduce clinical risk, enhance efficiency, increase revenues, and provide a world-class experience and level of service to its patients.

BMI Technical Solutions Director Paul Cowley and Prolifics Solution Director Jonathan Sharland share their thoughts on the relationship and project success.

BMI Healthcare is the UK’s leading private hospital group, with 1 ½ million patient visits every year, over 97% of whom rate us “very good” or “excellent.”

Our highly integrated systems are ahead of competition, but our integration platform was in need of an upgrade. We chose IBM’s Integration Bus (IIB) in order to provide a modern and stable integration platform. And we chose Prolifics, and IBM Premier Partner, to help get the most of our investment.

IIB is a massive step forward from previous integration product, giving us the opportunity to move integration into the cloud. With IIB, the product’s performance and reliability are exceptional, meaning the right data is consistently where we need it, reducing clinical risk and enhancing efficiency, in order to provide a world-class service to our patients.

At the outset, Prolifics helped us to strike the right commercial deal with IBM, and they ensured the project remained on track. Their expertise in IBM’s product gave us an optimal solution, and sharing this knowledge with BMI staff has enabled us to be fully self-sufficient going forward.

The fact that BMI were clear on their objectives and open to ideas from Prolifics allowed us to ensure BMI got the most value from the IBM products they acquired. This great working relationship will enable the organization to achieve its vision of delivering the best possible patient outcomes and experiences.

IIB has allowed BMI to drive forward with ecommerce, allowing us to further our service-oriented architecture and offer secure web services. It has also enabled us to develop integrated mobile apps and extend the scope of our electronic patient record. Through this, BMI will drive an enhanced service for both our consultants and our patients.

To cite one particular example where BMI was a finalist for an IT innovation award, IIB has facilitated introduction of our cloud-based SAT oncology software, driving forward BMI’s business strategy in cancer services. It has led to increase in revenues, as well as enhancing patient safety and the patient experience. The quality of the technology, the services, and the business benefit that BMI derives make me confident in recommending IBM Integration Bus and Prolifics. IBM Integration Bus is one of the core technologies underpinning BMI’s world-class services to our patients.
